        What is the characteristics of plexiglass?


 

1. High transparency

Plexiglass is the best polymer transparent material at present, with a light transmittance of 92%, which is higher than that of glass.

2. High mechanical strength

The relative molecular weight of plexiglass is about 2million. It is a long-chain polymer compound with relatively soft molecular chains. Therefore, the strength of plexiglass is relatively high, and its tensile and impact resistance is 7 ~ 18 times higher than that of ordinary glass. There is a kind of heated and stretched plexiglass, in which the molecular segments are arranged in a very orderly manner, which significantly improves the toughness of the material. Even if the nail penetrates this kind of plexiglass, or the bullet penetrates it, there will be no cracks and fragments. Therefore, the stretched plexiglass can be used as bulletproof glass and as the cockpit cover of military aircraft.

3. Light weight

The density of plexiglass is 1.18g/ cm 3. The weight of materials of the same size is only half of that of ordinary glass and 43% of that of metallic aluminum (belonging to light metals).

4. Easy to process

Plexiglass can not only be cut by lathe and drilled by drilling machine, but also be bonded into various shapes of appliances with acetone, chloroform, etc. it can also be processed into various appliances with plastic molding methods such as blow molding and injection, ranging from aircraft cockpit covers to dentures and dentures.

5. Long service life

The plexiglass will not change color or have other problems after long-term use, and the service life of qualified plexiglass products can be more than 10 years.
