The compressive strength of quartz glass varies according to the test results. The compressive strength of block and rod is generally between 650 and 1900 Mpa, while that of flake quartz glass decreases greatly, about 50 to 200 Mpa. The compressive strength of quartz glass is related to magazines in glass, and to the melting process and sample processing accuracy. Usually, the compressive strength of quartz glass is tested by universal press. Samples made of cubic or glass rods should be strictly symmetrical and grinded; pressure should be uniform and the number of samples should be no less than 10.
The formula for calculating compressive strength is P=F/S.
Formula: P - Compressive Strength, MPa
F - - The pressure of destruction, N
S - - The area of cross section, ㎡.
