Physical toughening of sight glass
The principle of physical toughening is to cool the sight glass quickly after heating to a suitable temperature, so that the surface of the sight glass mirror shrinks rapidly, resulting in compressive stress. However, the cooling of the sight glass layer is slower, and it is too late to contract, so it forms tensile stress and makes the sight glass get higher strength. In general, the higher the cooling strength, the greater the strength of the sight glass. There are many methods of physical tempering, which can be divided according to the cooling medium, which can be divided into gas medium steel method, liquid medium steel method, particle steel method, fogging method and so on.
1. gas medium steel method
Gas medium steel method, that is, wind cooling steel method. The methods include horizontal air cushion toughening, horizontal roller mill, vertical steel and so on. The so-called air-cooled toughening method is to heat the sight glass mirror near the sight glass mirror's softening temperature (650~700 degrees), and then blow the air on both sides to cool it rapidly, so as to increase the mechanical strength and thermal stability of the sight glass mirror. Sight glass heating quenching is an important link with the physical production of toughened sight glass, toughened sight glass, basic requirements for quenching is rapid and uniform cooling, so as to obtain uniform stress distribution, in order to obtain uniform cooling sight glass, there must be effective cooling wind cooling device sparse and convenient to remove accidental broken the sight glass and should try to reduce the noise.
Advantages and disadvantages:
The advantages of the air-cooled tempered is the low cost, large yield, mechanical strength, thermal shock resistance is high (super safe working temperature of 287.78 DEG C) thermal gradient and higher (by 204.44 degrees), and in addition to air-cooled tempered sight glass can enhance the mechanical strength, can form small pieces when broken, which can reduce the the harm of human body. But the sight glass thickness and shape have certain requirements (tempered by domestic equipment of ultra small sight glass thickness is about 3 mm), and the slow cooling rate, high energy consumption, the thin sight glass mirror, sight glass deformation problems still exist in the process of tempering, can not be applied to the higher quality requirements in the field of optics.
Scope of application: at present, air tempering technology is widely used, and air tempered sight glass is mostly used in automobiles, ships and buildings.
