Reprocessing usually includes: lighting, calibration, grinding.
The lamp maker uses a burner to make semi-finished utensils and glass tubes into glass instruments of various complex shapes through a series of operations. The lamp maker is mainly accomplished by skilled workers. The basic operations are borosilicate glass tube cutting, bottom sealing, blowing, sealing, diameter changing, etc. Lightman operation is a special technology with high requirements, which has not changed much in the past hundred years.
Calibration is to mark a measure or mark on a glass instrument. In the past, sand blasting or hydrofluoric acid etching was mainly used. In order to reduce pollution, improve efficiency and ensure accuracy, now most of the high-precision tubes are heat-shaping. They are colored by screen printing or transfer printing, acid-resistant glaze or copper-silver ion diffusion method. Because the monovalent metal ion content of borosilicate glass 3.3 is low, the color of borosilicate glass is lighter by ion diffusion method, while that of other instrument glass is pig liver color. The greatest advantage of ion diffusion coloring is that it never fades and can resist the erosion of various solvents.
Grinding is an important process for manufacturing various glass joints and knots. In the past, one-to-one grinding was used to make products that could not be interchanged. Now standard products have been adopted. Users can assemble standard parts by themselves when they buy them back. Diamond moulds or thermal shaping methods can be used to make standard moulds. The key of the grinding process is that the grinding surface is sufficiently tight without leakage.
In recent years, with the improvement of the precision of borosilicate glass tube, a large number of computer-controlled special machines have been used to complete the reprocessing process. The price has decreased and the quality has improved. However, small batches of complex products still need advanced technicians to complete. Therefore, the price of complex glass instruments in the international market is very high.
