‌Borosilicate glass and ordinary glass have significant differences in chemical composition, physical properties and application areas.
Chemical composition
The main components of borosilicate glass include silicon dioxide (SiO₂), boron trioxide (B₂O₃) and alkali metal oxides (such as sodium oxide Na₂O). Ordinary glass is mainly composed of silicon dioxide and metal oxides, and usually does not contain boron. ‌

Physical properties
‌ Thermal stability: Borosilicate glass has a lower thermal expansion coefficient, about one-third of ordinary glass, which makes it less likely to break when the temperature changes. Ordinary glass has poor thermal stability and is easily broken by sudden temperature changes. ‌
‌ Mechanical properties: Borosilicate glass has high strength and hardness and can withstand greater pressure and impact. Ordinary glass has relatively low strength and hardness. ‌
‌ Corrosion resistance: Borosilicate glass has good chemical stability and can withstand erosion by highly corrosive media such as acids and alkalis. Ordinary glass has poor chemical stability and is easily corroded.
Application fields
Due to its high chemical stability, thermal stability and mechanical strength, borosilicate glass is often used to make scientific research instruments, optical devices and chemical instruments. Ordinary glass is mainly used in construction, home decoration and tableware.
Production process
The production process of borosilicate glass includes raw material preparation, melting, molding and processing. The raw materials are mainly quartz sand, boric acid and flux, which are melted at high temperature and then molded and processed.
