Soda lime glass and borosilicate glass
Soda lime glass is "primitive" glass, which appeared thousands of years ago in its basic form. It is also known as coronal glass, a high sodium silicate form of sodium calcium that has historically been used for windows. Sodium calcium glass is composed of SiO2, sodium oxide (soda) and calcium oxide (lime). Soda lime glass accounts for about 90% of the world's used glass, including most windows, tableware, lighting products as well as beer bottles and glass!
Borosilicate glass is a kind of "Engineering" glass, which is specially used in laboratory and thermal, mechanical and chemical conditions which are too harsh for the standard domestic sodium calcium glass. Like most glass, borosilicate glass is mainly composed of SiO2. The big difference is that it has boron oxide and various other special elements, rather than "soda water and lime", to make it have excellent quality.
Because the CTE of borosilicate glass is lower than soda lime, it can be molded into complex shapes, such as Dewar bottle and vacuum bottle; pour the cold glass into the vacuum insulated glass, which can keep the wonderful "ice cool" for several hours, and the effervescence time in the borosilicate glass insulation cup will be longer.
