Microparticle toughening tempered sight glass
This method is to heat the sight glass to near softening temperature, and then to enhance the sight glass in the fluidized bed by means of solid particles which are generally quenched by alumina particles with a particle size less than 200 m. Theoretically, using solid as cooling medium can produce thinner, lighter and stronger toughened sight glass. So in the middle of last century to early 80s, Britain, Japan, Belgium and Germany used this technology to produce in 70s.
Advantages and disadvantages:
Ultra thin sight glass can be tempered by microparticle toughening. The strength is high and the quality is good. It is an advanced technology for manufacturing high performance tempered sight glass at present. The new technology of microparticle toughening is compared with the traditional wind tempering process. The cooling energy of the cooling medium is large and is suitable for the steel ultra thin sight glass. The energy saving effect is remarkable (energy saving about 40%). However, the cost of the cooling medium of the microparticle toughening process is high.
