Manufacturing process of ultra white glass: How to achieve a transmittance of over 91%
The reason why ultra white glass is known as "magic glass" is mainly due to its amazing light transmittance - up to 91% or more. So, how did this almost "invisible" glass achieve such excellent transparency through manufacturing processes?
Firstly, the selection of raw materials is crucial. Ultra white glass uses high-purity quartz sand, soda ash, and limestone as the main components. The key is to control the content of iron oxide in it at an extremely low level (usually less than 0.015%) to reduce the green impurity color of the glass and make it closer to a colorless state. This is the first step towards high transparency.
Next is the precise melting process. In a high-temperature furnace, the raw materials are thoroughly melted and uniformly mixed. The entire process requires extremely high temperature control and impurity control to prevent the formation of defects such as bubbles and stripes, thereby ensuring that light passes through the glass without interference.
Subsequently, the glass is slowly flowed and formed on the surface of the molten tin through float forming technology, ensuring a smooth and even surface and reducing light scattering. In addition, through precise annealing treatment, internal stress can be eliminated, optical uniformity and mechanical strength can be improved.
Finally, some ultra white glasses will undergo ultra-fine polishing and coating treatment, such as adding a low-E film layer, which not only improves light transmittance but also regulates thermal energy conduction and reflection.
It is precisely these high standard and refined manufacturing processes that make ultra white glass far superior to ordinary glass in terms of visual effects and performance, becoming the preferred material in modern architecture, photovoltaic power generation, display equipment and other fields. A transmittance of over 91% is not magic, but the ultimate manifestation of technology.
